BUENOS AIRES, Argentina (AP) - The Argentine city of Rosario has inaugurated a monument honoring native son Ernesto "Che" Guevara.
Thousands of people paid homage to the bearded icon on Saturday as officials unveiled a 12-foot (4-meter) bronze likeness on the 80th anniversary of his birth.
The late guerrilla's daughter Aleida Guevara attended the ceremony and accepted on his behalf a post-mortem honor from a local university.
Cuban Ambassador Aramis Fuente wished "Che" a happy birthday.
The statue was made from some 75,000 bronze keys donated by Argentines nationwide.
Guevara was captured and executed in 1967 in Bolivia as he was trying to foment an uprising.
